A spiced red wine that you can find in the open air markets of Munich in the winter.  It is sooooo amazingly good!

Course: Drinks
Servings: 6
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 whole orange cut in half
  • 20 whole cloves
  • 1 bottle red wine
Instructions
  1. Combine the sugar, water and cinnamon sticks in a small saucepan and bring to boil, and then reduce to a simmer.

  2. Cut the orange in half, and then poke about 10 whole cloves through the skin of each half.  Add both orange halves with the clovers to the saucepan of sugar, water and cinnamon.

  3. Simmer until the mixture has thickened, or about 20-30 minutes.

  4. Add one whole bottle of red wine, and bring to a simmer.  Serve in a tall mug - preferably one from Bavaria!  And drink on a cold day!
